The question on everyone’s mind right now is, “How will AI affect content writing?” SEO and ad copy is an exact science, and today’s advanced AI chat tools seem to have the formula, leaving many wondering what comes next.
Some tools out there claim they can supplant your entire content team for a fraction of the cost. Other, more realistic companies, like Peppertype AI, promise to help you get the most out of your content.
But with a steep $399/mo price tag, the question remains: Is Pepper worth it? In this Peppertype AI review, we’ll find out.
What is Peppertype AI?
Pepper Content is an AI-powered content marketing platform and talent network. It was founded in 2017 by Rishabh Shekhar and Anirudh Singla while both were students at BITS Pilani in Rajasthan, India.
Peppertype AI is the former name for Pepper’s more recent innovation: a ChatGPT client custom built for content marketing. New solutions like this are part of the reason Pepper secured $14.3 million in funding in 2022, which it used to expand global marketing with a billboard in Times Square.
How much does Peppertype AI cost?
For the purpose of this Peppertype AI review, we’ll be laser-focused on Pepper’s AI content generation tool. However, this tool is accessed via the overall Pepper Content platform, which costs $399/mo and also includes content research tools and a word processor.
How do you sign up for Peppertype AI?
If you’re interested in Peppertype AI, Pepper strongly recommends either booking a demo or starting a 7-day free trial. If you’re thinking of trying it out, just note that you can only sign up with an official company email—@gmail.com won’t cut it.
Next, you’ll be asked to fill out info about yourself and your company—your position, your industry, what you seek to achieve with Pepper, etc. Once you’ve filled everything else, you get the same option one last time: book a demo or start a free trial.
Peppertype AI 7-day free trial

You can sign up without a card, making it a truly risk-free 7-day trial.
How do you use Peppertype AI?
Once you sign up for Peppertype AI, you’ll be greeted with a neat interactive tutorial. The Pepper Content dashboard has a lot of features, so this tutorial can help you get a handle on things.
Since this is a Peppertype AI review, we’ll focus on how to access Pepper’s AI chat tool.
The Pepper Content dashboard
On the Pepper Content dashboard, you’ll see a lot of options: SEO tools on the left-hand side, recent items and projects in separate categories, the list goes on.
To create something with Peppertype AI, you’ll want to focus on those three options up top: create a Pepper doc, explore AI content prompts, or order from expert talent.
Today, when I tried to click on “Explore AI content Prompts” or “View All Content Types,” I got hit with this error message. I’m not sure if this is a temporary bug or not, but you can still use Peppertype AI by creating a new document.
Pepper Docs
The phrase “all-in-one platform” gets thrown around a lot, but Pepper makes a strong case. Their content management system has a built-in word processor with built-in keyword research, tracking, plagiarism checking, AI, and free-use stock photos. It can even connect directly to your WordPress account.
As an SEO writer, Pepper feels like the answer to all my problems, a place where I can handle my entire SEO workflow on one platform. Is it worth $399/mo? That’s another story.
Peppertype AI
You can easily access Peppertype AI from the right-hand menu on Pepper’s word processor. You’ll be greeted with a long string of prompts to choose from, including:
- Website copy
- Google ad copy
- Social media captions
- Tweets
- Blog outlines/content
- YouTube descriptions
- Product reviews
- Customer review responses
- Email content
- Feature to benefit
How to use a Peppertype AI template
To use a template, simply click on it and fill out the unique prompt. I chose the “Tweet Ideas” prompt and used Penji, one of our favorite graphic design services, as an example.
It offered simple suggestions like, “Ask designers to share the funniest piece of feedback they ever got from a client,” and, “Talk about the importance of logos in branding.”
Here are a few examples of suggestions I got from Peppertype AI’s other prompts.
- Blog Ideas: “How to Design a Business Card That Gets Noticed”
- Website Headlines: “The fastest and most convenient way to get graphics designed”
- Blog Outline: “1. Introduction 2. Peppertype.ai and content marketing 3. The pros of Peppertype.ai 4. The cons of Peppertype.ai Conclusion: If you're looking for a tool that's going to help you fill your pipeline, you can't go wrong with Peppertype.ai.”
- Feature to Benefit: “With Penji, you can focus on your business and let the professionals worry about design. You can get high-quality designs that are customized for your business. You can also get unlimited designs for a low monthly fee.”
When you like a prompt, you can easily copy it to your clipboard or insert it right into your document.
Using Peppertype AI to rewrite text
When using Pepper Docs, you can also use AI to rewrite any text by simply highlighting it. You get the option to answer questions, expand text, rewrite, or simplify.
I asked Peppertype AI to rewrite the above paragraph, and it gave me this:
“Pepper Docs offers an innovative feature that allows users to utilize AI technology to rewrite any text quickly and effortlessly. All it takes is a simple highlight of the text, and you'll have access to several options, such as answering questions, expanding or simplifying sentences, or even completely rewriting them entirely. Whether you need to summarize long documents into shorter versions or rephrase complex ideas into more straightforward language, Pepper Docs has got you covered with its intuitive AI-powered tools. So say goodbye to tedious manual editing and let Pepper Docs help streamline your writing process today!”
As you can see, the writing is fine, but not necessarily achieving the same goals as the original text.
Peppertype AI review: Pros and cons
Pros
All in one: The biggest benefit of Peppertype AI is its integration with the Pepper Content platform. There are plenty of other AI chat tools out there, but being able to use AI for writing assistance, track SEO, find images, write, and publish all from one platform is priceless.
Convenient prompts: The AI writing prompts cover all the bases for content writers, from social media posts to blog content. They even have prompts to help you come up with selling points for your business.
Easy to use: Peppertype AI takes the guesswork out of AI writing assistance. With this one, it’s baked right into the platform, with accessible prompts that help you generate ideas.
Cons
Expensive: Assuming Pepper’s word processing, WordPress integration, and SEO tools are all top of the line, they may collectively be worth the $399/mo subscription fee. Still, that’s a lot to pay for an AI writing assistant, especially when you can get the same results with a little extra effort from ChatGPT.
Limited access: You only have a limited number of options for using Peppertype AI. You can choose from about 30 prompts, 5 rephrasing options, and… that’s it. That may be enough for most writers, but it feels like an imposed restriction.
Little room for feedback: AI generally can’t accept feedback, which is one of its greatest weaknesses for creative work. But with tools like ChatGPT, you can fine-tune your prompt to achieve a different result. You could do that with Peppertype AI’s rigid templates, but it’s not nearly as easy or effective.
Final Peppertype AI review
I’m on the fence about whether Pepper Content’s platform is worth the steep price, but in terms of selling points, Peppertype AI is honestly not their strongest. You can get similar AI prompts and rewriting tools with Jasper for a fraction of the cost.
As an aside, I also started receiving phone calls from Pepper a few days into my trial, which readers will know is a turn-off for me. There’s also no clear way to cancel your trial—you just have to let it run its course.
Overall, I was very impressed with Pepper as a content management platform. It may be the most convenient and easiest to use of them all. But for the AI tool specifically, I was pretty underwhelmed.
Overall score: 5/10 🤷♀️
